Understanding monthly cost calculations
How Vexly converts different billing cycles into accurate monthly costs for comparison
Why Monthly Costs Look Different
You might notice that Vexly's "monthly cost" doesn't always match your subscription's actual price. This is intentional and mathematically correct.
The Problem with Direct Comparison
Subscriptions bill on different cycles:
- Some charge weekly
- Others charge every 2 weeks
- Many use monthly billing
- Some bill annually
To fairly compare these subscriptions, Vexly converts everything to a monthly equivalent.
How the Calculation Works
Vexly uses this formula:
Monthly Cost = (Price x Payments Per Year) / 12
Real Example
Let's say you have a subscription that costs $33.90 every 2 weeks:
- Calculate payments per year: 52 weeks / 2 = 26 payments per year
- Calculate annual cost: $33.90 x 26 = $881.40 per year
- Convert to monthly: $881.40 / 12 = $73.45 per month
This is why a $33.90 biweekly subscription shows as $73.45/month in Vexly.
Why This Matters
This accurate conversion helps you:
- Compare subscriptions fairly across different billing cycles
- Understand true monthly impact on your budget
- Make informed decisions about which subscriptions to keep or cancel
- Avoid underestimating the cost of weekly or biweekly subscriptions
Common Conversions
- Weekly: Price x 52 / 12
- Every 2 weeks: Price x 26 / 12
- Quarterly: Price x 4 / 12
- Yearly: Price / 12
The math is correct, even if the number looks different from your bill!
